




Robert Lepley started teaching and playing the piano professionally when he was fourteen years old, and brings over forty years of experience to his music students. While still in high school, he won scholarships in classical piano competitions and studied piano at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He holds a master's degree with a focus in music composition.
Mr. Lepley has performed with some of the legendary big bands such as the Glen Miller and Bob Crosby Orchestras, and with well-known contemporary jazz musicians such as Sonny Fortune, Eddie Daniels, and Joe Lovano. He has also had a long and successful career as a composer, arranger, and recording artist. He composed music for the theatre while living in Greenwich Village, and has recorded with jazz singers and instrumentalists over the years.
In 1996, his own recording, called Ancient Tower, was released by a division of Warner Brothers Records. This recording contains six of Mr. Lepley’s compositions for voices and instruments that are performed by the acclaimed New York Voices and narrated by the Oscar award-winning actress Meryl Streep (Visit Ancient Tower to hear a selection).
Currently Mr. Lepley is in great demand as a piano teacher and studio musician. He directs and accompanies vocal ensembles, is involved in music composition and arranging projects, and performs as a jazz pianist and vocalist in New York City and on Long Island.
