About Robert Lepley

Robert Lepley is the founder of Grand Piano Studio. He started teaching and playing the piano professionally when he was fourteen years old, and brings many years of experience to his music students. While still in junior high school, he won scholarships in classical piano competitions and studied piano at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He holds a master's degree with a focus in music composition. Mr. Lepley is also a well-known jazz pianist and has performed with some of the legendary big bands such as the Glen Miller and Bob Crosby Orchestras, and with contemporary jazz musicians such as Sonny Fortune, Eddie Daniels, and Billy Drewes.  

 

Mr. Lepley has also had a long and successful career as a composer, arranger, and recording artist. He composed music for the theatre while living in New York’s Greenwich Village, and has recorded with jazz singers and instrumentalists over the years. In 1996, his own recording, called Ancient Tower, was released by a division of Warner Brothers Records. This recording contains six of Mr. Lepley’s compositions for voices and instruments that are performed by the acclaimed New York Voices and narrated by the Oscar award-winning actress Meryl Streep. (The recording was re-released as “Visions Within” in 2008 by MSR Classics. In 2017, a second recording was released: Macdougal St., NYC is a double album set of original jazz compositions and arrangements of jazz standards performed by 33 New York-based jazz musicians in 16 jazz bands made up of trios, quartets and quintets, and ONE JAZZ PIANIST!
